DFC3C Daughter Card and FRU (Field Replaceable Unit)

Hi

We have a Cisco WS-X6708-10GE module which has Distributed Forwarding Card WS-F6700-DFC3C.

We want to upgrade the Distributed Forwarding Card from WS-F6700-DFC3C to WS-F6700-DFC3CXL. But the Cisco partner Dimension Data said:

“We will need to investigate if the current modules are FRU on the non XL daughter card. Cisco won’t do this, but if the card is FRU, then DD can do it”.

How do we find out the WS-X6708-10GE module is FRU (Filed Replaceable Unit) on the DFC3C daughter card?

A. Customers can purchase WS-F6700-DFC3CXL= to field upgrade  WS-X6708-10G-3C to WS-X6708-10G-3CXL. WS-F6700-DFC3CXL= would be  available with the next Cisco IOS®  Software release, targeting 1HCY07. WS-F6700-DFC3CXL= upgrade kit comes  with both the DFC3CXL daughter board as well as 1 GB DRAM. Since  WS-X6708-10G-3C already comes with 1G DRAM as default, the 1 GB DRAM kit  does not need to be installed on the WS-X6708-10G-3C for the DFC  upgrade.
