DHCP snooping performance degradation

Hi,

We are using DHCP server,  and on Switches  2960 and 3560 DHCP snooping is not enabled. Should we enabe the  DHCP snooping, will it cause any performance issue. If the switches are operating with  average traffic and utilization.

Please share the experience

Thanks

Subodh

As far as i know DHCP snooping is implemented in hardware on these switches so there should be minimal additional overhead on the main CPU. You do need to be aware of the limitations on the DHCP snooping binding database though because nvram and flash are limited, see the guidelines in the following link -

Re: DHCP snooping performance degradation

Hi Subodh,

It should not cause any performance issues as the DHCP snooping contains the MAC address, IP address, lease time, VLAN info only for the local untrusted interface.
