im currentyly doing my ccna and cisco academy lab books seem to use
copy run start or rather copy running-config startup-config however i was watching a traing thing and the instructor was using the command wr
so you can see where this is going whats the difference between using wr and copy run start does one do more than the other etc.

Greetings Mate,
Actually the complete command is:
write memory
which is an old command but it still works. It does the same function as copy run start.
There are also other commands:
write terminal (writes configuration to screen)
write memory (writes configuration to non-volatile memory, e.g. flash)
write network (writes configuration to tftp server on network)
I hope that helps...

Hi,
the commands are doing the same but there is a little difference:
copy run start
prompts you to confirm the destination filename, while wr does not.
Which can be used in some scriptes, e.g.

The write commands work in IOS versions before 12.0. Both work in current IOSes.

I use whatever has the fewest keystrokes , which is wr mem , shorter than doing a copy run start . The strange one I haven't figured out is saving to a tftp server . They want you to use some convoluted long string like copy runn tftp /
, it is a lot simpler to just use the "write net" command .Find answers to your questions by entering keywords or phrases in the Search bar above. New here? Use these resources to familiarize yourself with the community:
