DLEP Protocol

I am currently testing the DLEP protocol for practical use.  Since it is so new and not very used can anyone tell me of a simulator or maybe even a GNS3 lab I can build to actually configure and test it?  Or even useful information about the DLEP protocol?  Thanks in advance.

There isnt much chance of me getting an answer on this is there? I was hoping someone at Cisco might have seen this.

Bryanrobh,

I have forwarded your request onto one of the co authors of DLEP here at Cisco and have asked him to reach out to you. sorry for taking so long I do not troll this site too often. He is re writting some of the documentation for the RF Simulator he can direct you to the open forge site on this.

Hello Bryanrobh,

While I don't have a GNS3 lab you can use to test it, I can point you to a few documents which will help you understand/setup a simulator.

First, here is a AAG paper which gives you a very high level overview of DLEP:  http://www.cisco.com/web/strategy/docs/gov/aag_dlep.pdf

Second, here is a link to an open source simulator that you can use to test DLEP.  http://sourceforge.net/projects/dleptools/

To give you a few helpful hints on starting this, the simulator can talk to multiple routers as once.  DLEP is a protocol that is designed to pass information between a router and a device with a variable link (a radio or modem is a good example).  The simulator can act as the radio.

In my current lab, I have the simulator running on a Linux box (I use a 32-bit Ubuntu).  The Linux box is connected to an ethernet segment that also has multiple routers connected to it.  I run multiple instances of the simulator on the Linux box, each instance will connect to a different router.

Hopefully, this text diagram will help...

Linux----(eth0)----CiscoSw---------(FastEthernet0/0)-----Router1

                                |       |

Router2----Fe0/0--|       |-------Fe/0/0------Router3

I'm sure you will still have questions as the simulator is currently not documented very well.  Hit me up via email and I'll be happy to help if you are still interested.

I'm also authoring a dlep client daemon for a radio device ... is there any additional information about setting up a test network to validate behavior? I'm using dlep-tools as a router simulator -- I simply want to confirm that a real router behaves like the simulator and conforms to https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-manet-dlep-00.
