Doubt about WS-X6148A-GE-TX Port-ASIC mapping

Hi,

Can someone clarify what is the Port-Asic mapping in WS-X6148A-GE-TX.

In this document http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/hardware/Module_Installation/Mod_Install_Guide/02ethern.html#wp1062961
says:

Port groups

WS-X6148A-GE-TX—6

Port ranges per port group

WS-X6148A-GE-TX: 1-8, 9-16, 17-24, 25-32, 33-40, 41-48

And with show interfaces capabilities module X, I see that there is one ASIC to 48 ports:

Copiapo_7604#show interfaces capabilities module 4

Doubt about WS-X6148A-GE-TX Port-ASIC mapping

Hi Jaime,

It has onboard 6 ASICS with 8 front pannel ports connected to each ASIC. Not sure how to interpret the output above, I guess it says how many total ports are connected to ASICS and all 1-48 ports are connected to the ASICS on board.

Please see another link for the confirmation related to port distribution when configuring etherchannel on 6148 module.

I believe that is referring to the Fabric ASICS for the module it self. If you did that for each module you would see the same thing. Try doing the command for an interface.

We had that line card and ran into issues when we had some very heavy traffic on the same ASICS. We kept seeing a lot of traffic issues. We split them up and it improved but that wasted a lot of ports. We upgraded to W-6748-GE-TX, that card has one ASICS per port.

Doubt about WS-X6148A-GE-TX Port-ASIC mapping

The port groupings in sh int cap are from a qos configuration standpoint only, they are not meant to (necessarily) reflect the internal architecture.

As already pointed out there are 6 Port ASICs on this LC.

Riccardo
