Dual VSM infrastructure accross 2 datacenter

Hi All,

Our two datacenters are linked together using OTV.The VMware network environment is managed by the NExus1000V

We have a VMWare streched cluster over the 2 physical datacenters (a part of the VEM in DC1 and a part of the VEM in DC2).

We have a pair of VSM that managed the ESX Vem of the streched cluster.

The problem is that both VSM are actually running on the 1st Datacenter because we heard  it was not supported to have one VSM in the first DC and the standby on the 2nd DC.

So, the redundancy of the VSM cannot be achieved. What if we lose the 1st Datacenter where both VSM are running ?

Is there someone that have streched VSM over 2 DC within a streched VMWare cluster ?

Thanks a lot.

Frederic,

This has been changed in recent N1KV versions. You can stretch your VSM's across DC's with L2 vlan extended using OTV.

Check this under "Deploying the Cisco Nexus 1100 Series Across Data Centers"

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9902/deployment_guide_c07-720862.html

I am pretty sure that you can achieve the same running VSM as a VM on any ESX host.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
