Dynamic Routing and IP Address of PCs

In a case, if we have router interface and PCs connected to router then we have to declare Pcs Ip address in Dynamic routing  if using RIP 1/2 or EIGRP. But what if we have switched connected to router and having more  than 40 PCs . Do we have to type each pc addressss when creating dynamic routing?

Muhammad,

I'm not sure I understand your question, but routing protocols are for devices to exchange routing information with each other. You don't need to put 40 pc addresses in your routing protocol unless they're on 40 different subnets (vlans). For example, if you have 192.168.1.0/24 as your network, you can have 254 hosts (1 - 254) on that network. In your routing protocol, you'd only route for 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0. The router knows that it can get to anything on the local subnet (192.168.1.0/24) by going out its lan interface.

John

Hi,

Your answer is perfect as per his question. Once my student asked me same question.

As John said, you just need to specify the subnet of the PC's ip addresses.

Follow exactly as what j.blakley said. Even you can't have 40 PC with different subnet which connected to single vlan and single Router interface. Just advertise the whole subnet.

Nothing to do !!!!! Just advertise your ip subnet using network command. if they are in different subnets, u need to go for vlans in switch and sub-interfaces in router( Router on a Stick)...
