I need to rate limit a 1Gb L2 port on a 6509 with a Sup720 PFC3B. The module is WS-X6748 with CFC not a DFC.
The link between this and an identical 6509 is nominally 1Gb but only provisoned for 200Mb.
I am also trying to do QoS on the link using DSCP for voice and video along with a scavanger queue etc.
Is there anyway to do this ? Obvioulsy if I dont rate limit somehow then the port will never fill its egress buffers so output queueing wont kick in and the providers intermediate equipment will randomly drop packets to keep the rate below 200Mb, which is bad for my voice and video. I was looking at maybe doing something on the VLAN interface but I think that is only supported with cards with DFCs.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
