EIGRP Events Output - Acive net/peers: 10.1.1.0/30 524288 peers

Hello all,

I assume that this may be just a cosmetic thing with the versions of code I am running when an eigrp route goes active and I show the contents of the above command

Router>sh ip eigrp even | i Active

271 01:16:45.347 Active net/peers: 10.1.1.0/30 524288

router>

router>sh ip eigrp int

IP-EIGRP interfaces for process xx

Xmit Queue Mean Pacing Time Multicast Pending

Interface Peers Un/Reliable SRTT Un/Reliable Flow Timer Routes

Gi0/0 4 0/0 5 0/10 50 0

Gi0/1 4 0/0 4 0/10 50 0

router>

Could not see anything in the bug toolkit?

Has anyone else seen?

I'm not really certain what you're asking--are you asking why it shows up with an active entry in the event log but don't show any current active routes? It could be that's already passive between the two commands.... Can you explain more?

Thanks!

Re: EIGRP Events Output - Acive net/peers: 10.1.1.0/30 524288 pe

very sorry guys, must have been away with the fairies when I wrote this :)

The question is just that the output from the show ip eigrp events shows an active route (which is fine) as it was a point-to-point link going down, but it says that it is going to query 524288 peers for advice?

Event ID: 271

ERROR: Network 10.1.1.0/30 is going active and will query 524288 peers.

INFO: A route becomes active when the route becomes unavailable and no feasible

successor exists in the topology table. If a feasible successor cannot be found

for this route by querying it's neighbors, the router will remove this route

from its topology and routing table.

TRY THIS: Use the 'show ip eigrp topology 10.1.1.0/30' and 'show ip route'

commands to monitor this route.

Think it may just a little bug'ette' ???

Thx

Ken

Re: EIGRP Events Output - Acive net/peers: 10.1.1.0/30 524288 pe

This is the normal way by which DUAL algorithm used by EIGRP calculates alternate route when primary route (successor) goes down and there is no feasible successor available.

in your case when succesor route is down, and there is no feasible succesor in topology database, then router will query to all its neighbor to check for any alternative route through them.

when query reaches neighbor router, it checks if route is there or not. if yes, it will update the router who sent him query. If not, router will send query to to its neightbor and the process goes down.

if no router sends back update within fixed time interval, then route will go into stuck in active state (SIA).

hope to help .... rate if it does ...

Many thx Sourabh,

I apprciate your replies very much.

The qestion is the statement when the route goes active. Yes, its a serial line, so I expect it to go active, but in the output, EIGRP says that it is going to query 524288 peers for the prefix.

I would be very impressed at that but the router only has a few peers:))

Just an output to note.

Thx fella,

Ken

Could you email off line? I've poked the code, and this looks like a bug, but I need more information to get something going on it....

Thanks!
