Hi all, are eigrp neighbours directly connected routers ? and how come rip/igrp dont have neighbours, what benefit does this have ?

Hello,

yes, eigrp neighbors are directly conneted.

EIGRP and OSPF are Link State protocols.

RIP and IGRP are distance vector protocols.

Link State advantages: Fast Convergence

Link State disatvabtages: processor and memory intensive

Distence Vector advatages: Need less memory and processor

Distance Vector disatvantages: slow convergence

EIGRP builds neighbor relationships with adjacent EIGRP speakers to facilitate reliable routing data transmission through the network. While EIGRP is a distance vector routing protocol, it uses DUAL, rather than Bellman-Ford, to discover the best path. DUAL can converge as fast, or faster, than a link state protocol, in different network designs, but neighbor relationships are required for DUAL to work properly.

RIP and IGRP, using Bellman-Ford, rely on data retransmission, rather than reliable data transmission. Relying on data retransmission slows convergence speed.

HTH.
