Error while upgrading IOS via XMODEM

hi,

my cisco 3640 router went in ROMMON prompt, so i tried upgrading the IOS via xmodem recovery, while it was copying on in the middle i get the error.

WARNING: All existing data in flash will be lost!

does it mean that flash has gone bad?

Yes, the flash is bad, boot program is trying to write a memory position at the flash memory with no success.

thanks for the reply, i do also get an error message when i issued the command

rommon 5 > meminfo

Main memory size: 16 MB in 64 bit mode.

Available main memory starts at 0xa000e000, size 16328KB

IO (packet) memory size: 0 percent of main memory.

NVRAM size: 128KB

rommon 6 > dir flash:

device does not contain a valid magic number

dir: cannot open device "flash:"

so only thing i need to replace the flash isn't? so i will also try replacing the flash with the existing 3640 router. any suggestion on this?

Yes, you only need to replace the flash, the command you've used confirms the flash is bad.

To replace the flash memory an option if to use an external pcmcia card:
