Etherchannel across 6509 switches no VSS

I am sure this has been asked but I can't seem to find it and need to be sure.

From what I have read it is NOT possible to create an etherchannel from a single server with one connection each to two different 6509 chassis. No VSS SUP or any 10G ports for that matter. Is this correct?

That is correct. Without VSS, the 6509s see two seperate connections. The effect would depend on how your EtherChannel distribution algorithm is set up. At best you would get host flapping. At worst your Spanning Tree could break down and send the network into meltdown.
