etherchannel port state = ag-not-inuse

Hello

I am pretty sure of the answer to this but can't find any reference to it online.

I am running the command "show etherchannel 20 detail" on a 6500 with ios 12.2(25)  and getting the following output:

6513#show etherchannel 20 detail

Now, I would say that the Port State outputs of Up Sngl-port-Bndl Mstr Not-in-Bndl and Ag-Not-Inuse mean that the other end is not using LACP or PAGP (lacp in this case) but I cant find any documentation to confirm that.

So, what I am looking for is what the output of the Port State field means, and, if there is a link somewhere to the different outputs as I cant find it explained in the command reference or on any forums.

Hi Anthony ,

If you change the chaneel-group 20 mode on , and check the status of 6513#show etherchannel 20 detail
you should get Port state = Up Mstr In-Bndl.

Let me check for any info reg your question...

If the other end device and the switch (depending on your platform and IOS version) supports 802.3ad, you can use channel-group mode mode active, which is the IEEE equivalent of mode 'desirable.'

If one or both of the devices do not support 802.3ad, then you can use channel group mode on, on the switch, which will disable negotiation of the channel and  forces the LAN ports to channel unconditionally.
