Etherchannel

We have several routers switched together via 6509, and we are running EIGRP between those routers. We are seeing a lot of output drops on one of those routers, so to increase the B/W we need to bundle two FE interface together, can we do that.. ie, Can we configure fast etherchannel between 7206vxr and 6509 (Acts as layer 2 only)?

Hi,

this should not create an issue, if you are following the guidelines and restrictions. The configuration for the router can be found f.e. at "Configuring Fast EtherChannel"

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6350/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00804455b3.html#wp1056303

and the Catalyst configuration can f.e. be found at "Configuring Layer 3 and Layer 2 EtherChannel"

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a0080160a03.html

Hope this helps! Please use the rating system.

Thanks for your reply, I read this document but what confused me was the mention the Cat5000 switch without talking about the 6500..

"This feature can be configured between Cisco 7200 series routers, Cisco 7500 series routers, and Cisco 7000 series routers with the 7000 Series Route Switch Processor (RSP7000) and 7000 Series Chassis Interface (RSP7000CI) or between a Cisco 7500 series router or a Cisco 7000 series router with the RSP7000 and RSP7000CI and a Catalyst 5000 switch"

Well,

I assume this document was copied from older IOS version config guides. The feature is available since Catalyst 5000 times and the same text appears in many docs. Maybe one should give a hint to Cisco staff to update their documentation in this point.
