Ethernet Port Redundancy on a 3845

looking for a method to provide Ethernet redundancy on the same router. Currently have a 3845 with just the 2 on board GIG-ethernet ports. Since the on board ports do not support ether-channel and you cannot configure HSRP on the same router does anyone know of any method to provide fault-tolerance?

Thanks

Re: Ethernet Port Redundancy on a 3845

We're using mHSRP groups to provide load-sharing/balancing on two 3845s. Check out the link:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/blades/3040/software/release/12.2_44_se/configuration/guide/swhsrp.html

If you can provide more network details, I can probably help you with what you want to achieve.

HTH,

We have a single 3845 router with 2 ethernet ports - trying to utilize both ports for redundancy, failover. 1 subnet 192.168.20.x /24

BTW: The question of making Etherchannel recently arose on another post. It appears it can be done on 38xx with recent IOS. See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5855/prod_white_paper0900aecd806f698a.pdf for details.
