Hello & Greetings.
I would like to know more about Extended VLANs (NOT how-to CONFIGURE issues, tho) ... just the concepts, when to use Ext VLANs, when not to use (esp. why not to use extended VLANs), and most of all the Why's of it.
Any help / links etc would be much appreciated. Thanks,
Kishan

Kishan,
Extended vlans are just extra vlan's!
All switches are capable of handling 1001 vlans. vlan numbered 1002 to 1005 are not in use.
Extended vlans are from 1006 to 4094.
When to use vlans - when you have run out of vlan numbers 1 - 1001 on your internal LAN.
Or if you are a provider and you have over 1001 customers in your network and you are tagging in your infrastructure then I can see a need for extended vlans.

you can use it, but:
1. couldn't put switch in server, client mode, only in transparent.
2.also cannot configure a name for an extended-range VLAN.
3. Only Ethernet VLANs are supported
Otherwise you may use it without any precautions if you need
