Extending VLAN 4000 on another catalyst switch

I've a Catalyst 4510R with VOice VLAN 4000 on it. I connected Catalyst 4506 to it using fiber and now not able to extend that VLAN using VTP as VLAN Database wouldn't take the no 4000 on 4506. I've setup another VOICE VLAN on 4506 but since it needs to talk to VLAN 4000, I need to put VLAN 4000 on the 4506 but can't put it. Any idea of how to setup that VLAN on 4506 as I've done it earlier on 3750 and 4510.

Re: Extending VLAN 4000 on another catalyst switch

if you running client /server then you would delete the vlan on the 4510 if that is the server . You have to determine how it is currently setup whether client/server or transparent . If running transparent on the 4506 , you should be able to add it

conf t

vtp mode transparent

vtp domain XXXXXX

vlan 4000

name voice vlan

Re: Extending VLAN 4000 on another catalyst switch

Thanks. Converting vtp mode to transparent did work and now i could see vlan 4000 up but have another issue now. As mentioned before, I have two vlans on 4510R (Master Switch) VLAN10) and (VOICE VLAN 4000). I've a static route on 4510R to point to I also created a vlan 15 ( and 16 (voice) on 4510.

I created a new VLAN on 4506 i.e. DATA VLAN 15 ( and VOICE VLAN 16 ( Somehow I can't connect to any of the host on VOICE VLAN 4000 from VOICE VLAN 16. If I put a workstation on VLAN15, I can hit all the host on VLAN10 as well as 4000. But when I connect a phone on vlan 16 on 4506 and point the call server to, I get a subnet conflict. I don't have any static route on 4506. I do have a default-router setup on 4506 point to
