GBICs on a 4506

We have mulitmode fiber in our building. When shipped the 4506 had WS-G5486 fiber modules which did not work. I had a spare WS-G5484 handy and plugged it in and it seems to work. Is the G5484 the correct module or is it not optimized for the 4506?

thanks

Gary

Hi Gary ,

Per the below link, the GLC-SX-MM and WS-G5484 are compatible, they have the same wavlength and tx/rx power. You can use WS-G5484 in 4506.

Re: GBICs on a 4506

Gary,

depends what type of fiber you have is it Multi or Single Mode, distance, and at the other end of the fiber is it the same gbic or is it a computer.

Both LX WS-G5486 and SX WS-G5484 gbics work fine in the 4506.

Re: GBICs on a 4506

One end in the closet is the sfp and on the 4506 is the 5484. It's multimode all the way. I just wanted to make sure the 5484 gets me all the speed it should.

thanks

Gary
