Hi,
The main difference is that Giga supports upto 1000Mbps (it may support 10/100/1000 - configurable), while Fast supports up to 100Mbps (most commonly it supports 10/100 - configurable).
Giga interfaces can be fiber or copper, while fastethernet is always copper.
Which to use depends on your need, and the NIC cards in your servers, and most commonly Giga is used to trunk between switches.

Hi Mohammed
Thanks for your early reply,
I understood difference between Fast & Giga. But actually I have two 2950 48 ports switches both are connected via 46, 47 ports (these sould be trunk ports & use Giga as you told) remaining all are connected systems. Now my doubt is in switch only some ports Fast & some ports Giga like that will be there?
thanks in advance.

Hi,
Your switch has 48 10/100 ports with 2 fixed 1000BASE-SX uplinks, thus only these 2 ports are Giga (1000), while the rest ports are FastEthernet (10/100), if you required a switch that has all its interfaces Giga you can go for 2960G-48.
