Graceful Shutdown of VPC peer

Ive got a topology with a pair of 7ks which are vpc peers.  They are a distribution layer to 5ks and 6500s.  The 5ks are also vpcd so both the 7ks and the 5ks think the other end is a single device.  Clients are attached to fexs on the 5ks or directly to the 6500s.

I'm looking for a way to gracefully isolate the 7ks, one at a time, for maintainance purposes (replace a SUP, Fabric card, whatever requires a reboot of the device).  Were these not VPCs, Id metric the routing protocol up, metric HSRP up and fail spanning tree off.  Because these are dual active when serving as VPC peers, im not sure how I can reliably get traffic off of one device without interupting service through it to things which are attached to both switches downstream.

How would this be done (can it be done)?
