HA Design over MetroE

Hi,

We're in the process of reviewing HA architecture of primary/Disaster recovery LAN.

Both primary/DR location has Catalyst 6500 switch and they are connected via 50M MetroE connection.

Our plan is to disable L3 ports on each side where MetroE is connected to, then convert it to the trunk port(using 802.1q).

We believe this will allow us to extend multiple VLANs from primary site to the DR site. However we're not sure;

1. How to enable DR switch to provide the same next-hop IP address within the extended VLAN when primary switch or MetroE link failed.

2. How to optimize both switches so that only necessary traffic can travel through MetroE connection.

3. Recommended setup or best practice for implementing trunk over slow L2 connection.

Thank you in advance for your help.
