Having minor error for SUP6-E

Hi,

We are facing issue of having minor error for SUP module details below,

SUP: WS-X45-SUP6-E

Please see the minor error coming  while troubleshooting this SUP 6-E error as below,

module 3: SerialNo :

Overall diagnostic result: MINOR ERROR

Test results: (. = Pass, F = Fail, U = Untested)

1) supervisor-bootup ---------------> U

2) linecard-online-diag ------------> F

Please suggest on this. Also attaching the capture's taken while troubleshooting this SUP.

Having minor error for SUP6-E

Hi,

First of all consider this:

00:00:43: %C4K_REDUNDANCY-2-NON_SYMMETRICAL_REDUNDANT_SYSTEM: STANDBY:Main memory mismatch. Active supervisor has 1048576K memory. Standby supervisor has 524288K memory. Redundancy feature may not work as expected.

%C4K_REDUNDANCY-2-NON_SYMMETRICAL_REDUNDANT_SYSTEM: [char]

For the redundancy utility to operate properly, the system must be configured with

symmetrical hardware and software. A mismatch in hardware has been detected between the

active and standby systems. Redundancy operations cannot be guaranteed.

Recommended Action: Configure the hardware so that the active and standby supervisors are

identical in all respects.

upgrading the memory of the Active Sup or downgrading the memory of the backup Sup is

necessary for the SSO mode in order to guarantee the redundancy .

The other thing is that you cazn be also failing some HW test. I would recomend to sort the memory question first. That will also make you to reseat the standby SUP and make sure that it is seated in chassis  tightly.

Then check for Minor error again. If present - continue with RMA.

I'm not sure if this command is valid for the 4500 but can you post the output to the command "sh diagnostic result mod 1 failure"?

Did you try re-seating the line card or moving the line card into a different slot?

Cisco Employee

Having minor error for SUP6-E

Do upgrade memory on standby to the same ammount as on active first!!! or downgrade memory on active to the same as on standby.

We can clearly see that one SUP (possibly the one coming online later) is showing minor error. Either 3rd is with error or 4th:

module 3:   SerialNo :

  Overall diagnostic result: MINOR ERROR

  Test results: (. = Pass, F = Fail, U = Untested)

    1) supervisor-bootup ---------------> .
    2) linecard-online-diag ------------> F

module 4:   SerialNo : JAE1249277A

  Overall diagnostic result: PASS

  Test results: (. = Pass, F = Fail, U = Untested)

    1) supervisor-bootup ---------------> .
    2) linecard-online-diag ------------> .

OR:

Switch# sh diagnostic result module

module 3: SerialNo : JAE1342LC3R

Overall diagnostic result: PASS

Test results: (. = Pass, F = Fail, U = Untested)

1) supervisor-bootup ---------------> .

2) linecard-online-diag ------------> .

module 4: SerialNo :

Overall diagnostic result: MINOR ERROR

Test results: (. = Pass, F = Fail, U = Untested)

1) supervisor-bootup ---------------> .

2) linecard-online-diag ------------> F

So the memory test is telling you about the problem to solve at a first:

*Feb 13 03:14:40.511: %C4K_REDUNDANCY-2-NON_SYMMETRICAL_REDUNDANT_SYSTEM: Main memory mismatch. Active supervisor has 1048576K memory. Standby supervisor has 524288K memory. Redundancy feature may not work as expected.

Please fix memory and check!

Nik
