Help to understand the TCAM

Hi all,

I have doubts about the TCAM memory and i hope you help me to understand better the concept...

Please, correct me if i am wrong.:

-Cam its a type of "memory" wich works to make layer 2 decisions. It allows the MACs learned by the switch etc.

-Tcam its another type of "memory" wich allows:

     The acces lists. IT maches most quickli his sentences (ACE).

     QOS Acl.

¿This its ok?

I have a doubt, ¿there is routing information in the TCAM? ¿Mac information? What are the exactly tipe of traffic that manages the TCAM?¿Only its used for ACL and QoS or for other purpouses?

Its the TCAM a cisco feature or it exist in all the companyes that works with layer 2/3 switches.
