Does anyone know if this bug affects 6500's running IOS or is it only CatOS

I've checked the Bug and it affets 6500 CatOS , not sure about IOS.

It is not resolved and there is no work around.It is closed because they are suspecting it as a Spanning Tree issue..The problem can be seen on several switches that have the same type of sup HW

and SW.

since the bug toolkit does not specify any other OS than catOS 7.3(2), it would suggest that this has not been seen in the IOS for that device.

this bug actually has very little version info compared to what most bugs do.

(it doesn't even tell you what version it is fixed in, although the status of the bug is 'closed')
