High CPU utilisation on 6509 switch

Hi,

My Cisco 6509 switch 100% utilisation for more than 3 hrs now. When I used the command "show process cpu" i got the below output,

16407    97.2%   95.9%    96.0% ios-base

Can you please let me know why the CPU threshold is very high ?

Thanks & Regards

Murali

Hi,

Please find the output of "show tcp brief"

TCB Local Address Foreign Address (state)

010A0110 10.24.8.2:22 10.24.19.251:4219 ESTAB

Re: High CPU utilisation on 6509 switch

Run this command and see if the CPU goes back to normal.

clear tcp tcb 010A0110

Do not telnet into the switch after you run this command. Only go in through the Console port itself.

Re: High CPU utilisation on 6509 switch

Murali,

My suggestion is to open a TAC case for proper troubleshooting. It seems you are running the modular IOS version on this 6500 and you may be experiencing a memory leak. TAC can indicate if there is a bug on the IOS that you are running and provide an IOS recommendation with the bug fix.

Regards,

Edison.

Re: High CPU utilisation on 6509 switch

I'm not sure what ios rev you're running but there is a memory corruption issue with 12.2(33)SXI3 - bugid CSCtb34857 - crashed seen in xdr_reference.
