what is mean by hold time in routing protocols?

Hi,

Holddown mechanisms to prevent incorrect routing information from being propagated,Take for example of RIP with hold down timer. Setting the hold-down timer to h seconds means enforces that a routing update which leads to an increase of the cost (hop count) in a routing table entry, will be delayed by h seconds. Setting hold-down timer to 0 means that the RIP process accepts any new modifications to the route immediately.

Hope to Help !!
