How switch reads frames?

How the switch process/read the received frames? Is there any difference in reading normal ethernet frames and dot1Q tagged frames and also ISL frames ?

Can somone please explain or else a link/doc is fine?

ISL - Proprietry cisco -  Inserts a new ISL header infront of the original etherenet header

802.1Q is multi vendor - Inserts a 4 byte TAG fild after the source address field and recomputes the FCS
