Hi,
I got a second hand Cisco 7604 switch. In case of problem, I want to back up the IOS or IOS image through console port. Can anyone show me how to do it? I need the detail procedure because I just started it.
thanks in advance!

Hi,
Are you interested in backing up the IOS or the start-up-config?

You can not use the console port
If you want to back up the IOS, then you need to configure a laptop or a PC as a TFTP server and then connect the router to the PC and on the router you issue the command:
copy flash tftp (the ip address of the PC)
Have a look at thes documents for more info:

Hi,
Console port is meant for management and I dont think data traffic is possible. So you may not be able to backup the IOS via console port. You need reachability to TFTP or FTP server to backup your IOS.

Hi ,
Via console port it is not possible as said by others you need to have tftp server setup and issue the command copy flash tftp.
And as far as upgarding the ios of router via xmodem console check out the below link

Hope this helps out

Boot up in rommon and perform an X-Modem transfer. WIll take you a few hours. Use HyperTerminal Receive File Xmodem.
This was availble on older 2600/3600 routers and it 'could' be availble on the 7600s.....
other option is to follow along what everyone else said --- setup a temp vlan or interface and tftp/ftp it from your netbook.
