1  IEEE Voice Daughter Card    WS-F6K-48-AF          Ok
2  IEEE Voice Daughter Card    WS-F6K-48-AF         Ok
3  IEEE Voice Daughter Card    WS-F6K-48-AF          Ok
4  IEEE Voice Daughter Card    WS-F6K-48-AF        Ok

  6  Cat6k MSFC 2A daughterboard WS-F6K-MSFC2A       4.0    Ok
7  IEEE Voice Daughter Card    WS-F6K-48-AF        Ok

as per   sub module 5  it shows Cat6k MSFC 2A daughterboard  is there but i know this  switch is not do routing as as when i do command

sh ip protocols
*** IP Routing is NSF aware ***
my understanding is that it has MSFC layer 3 card on supe engine but it is not working any idea what does that sub mod msfc mean?

or is their some other way in which we can check if msfc card is doing routing or not

thanks

Easiest way is to type "sh ip route" on the 6500 to see if it is routing. You have an MSFC card as you can see and this is responsible for routing on the 6500. It is listed as a sub module because it is a daughtercard attached to the supervisor module ie. the MSFC on it's own does not take up a slot in the chassis.

Mahesh,

In addition to Jon's comment, MSFC is your router. That is the device that handles layer-3

The Supervisor engine 32 has MSFC2A onboard, which Performs Layer 3 control-plane functions; this includes address resolution and routing protocols.

Have a look at this documnet for more info:

Hi Jon

thanks for reply

so MSFC  card is installed but it is not doing routing  as per  this command right?

sh ip route
Codes: C - connected, S - static, R - RIP, M - mobile, B - BGP
D - EIGRP, EX - EIGRP external, O - OSPF, IA - OSPF inter area
       N1 - OSPF NSSA external type 1, N2 - OSPF NSSA external type 2
       E1 - OSPF external type 1, E2 - OSPF external type 2, E - EGP
       i - IS-IS, su - IS-IS summary, L1 - IS-IS level-1, L2 - IS-IS level-2
       ia - IS-IS inter area, * - candidate default, U - per-user static route
       o - ODR, P - periodic downloaded static route

Gateway of last resort is 10.x.x.x to network 0.0.0.0

     10.0.0.0/24 is subnetted, 1 subnets
C       10.x.x.xis directly connected, Vlan225
S*   0.0.0.0/0 [1/0] via 10.x.x.x.
