Hi

Copy the image to the directory and then use the command as an example ----------software install file flash:cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.03.01.SE.150-1.bin

Here is the cisco doc showing it

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-3850-series-switches/117552-technote-cat3850-00.html

Hi Mark,

I just need how to copy the image file to local computer due to emergency recovery which would happen in the future.

Is the only way to download the IOS-XE .bin file from the Cisco web site ? Never extract it from active switch ?

Thanks,

it depends on what way you installed it , it can be done but it has to uploaded that way first , as mine below I have .bin and .pkg files , there are multiple upload methods on 3850

which one is the ios file that i can use in another switch

Hello

1)Download free tftp server/client here and install it on your pc

2)Attach pc to you network and make sure the ip address range/subnet of the pc isnt being denied tftp access (tcp/udp port 69)

3) enable your tftp server/client software on pc and test to see if your switch can ping your pc
( make sure any software fw on your pc isnt negating icmp)

4) from switch - use the copy flash: command

sh ver | in System image
System image file is "flash:/c3560-ipbase-mz.122-25.SEE2/c3560-advipservicesk9-mz.122-46.SE.bin"

copy flash:
c3560-ipbase-mz.122-25.SEE2/c3560-advipservicesk9-mz.122-46.SE.bin tftp:

(press enter)

Address or name of remote host ? 1.1.1.1

You can also save your running-config to a file on the router itself and be able retrieve if need be:

copy running-config flash:SAVEMYCONFIG
Destination filename [SAVEMYCONFIG]?
4718 bytes copied in 1.619 secs (2914 bytes/sec

to replace it back to active state:

Configure replace flash:SAVEMYCONFIG
This will apply all necessary additions and deletions
to replace the current running configuration with the
contents of the specified configuration file, which is
assumed to be a complete configuration, not a partial
configuration. Enter Y if you are sure you want to proceed. ? [no]: yes

hi,

try issuing command:

copy flash:cat3k_caa-iosd-universalk9.SPA.150-1.EX3.pkg tftp

personally, i just upgrade a 3850 which uses .pkg image to the normal .bin file.

this is also a good practice for future stacking as well.

the latest recommended IOS Cisco's download site is:

cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.06.04.E.152-2.E4.bin
