How to detect Router hang beforehand

Hello,

My customer's Active Router got hanged, and it did not automatically failover to the Standby Router.

I do have an NMS that monitors ping loss of the device, but since the device did not completely shutdown,

I was not able to find out about this issue until after my customer informed me that there is a problem with the service.

Therefore, if this kind of problem happens again, are there any fast and efficient ways to monitor and detect router/switch hangs

before my customer knows about it?
