How to disable username and password on Catalyst 4503

Tang-Suan Tan

Hi all :

I have faced this username and password problem about couples of weeks but still no solution. Any one can help?

The steps below have been done but yet no positive result :

1. Press CTRL-C just within 5 sec after the switch boot up and enter to the ROMMON mode.

2. Have done confreg 0x2141 / 0x2142 and reset or restart the switch, but yet the swicth still prompt out the username and password.

3. Have tried after loading the IOS and press CTRL-C before the switch loading other files to cards or switch itself but the switch does not quit to ROMMON mode. It can go to ROMMON mode when press CTRL-C within 5 sec right after the switch is boot up.

Any way to resolve this problem? Please help. Thanks a lot!

regards..

Hello,

If you notice, the switch did not take the command you entered. Your ROMMON version does not allow you to set the Config Register value the way you have tried.

rommon 1 >confreg 0x2142
usage: confreg
rommon 2 >reset

******** The system will autoboot now ********

config-register = 0x102
Autobooting using BOOT variable specified file.....

Current BOOT file is --- bootflash:cat4500-ipbase-mz.122-37.SG.bin

Please try the following:

rommon 1 > confreg

Configuration Summary :
=> load ROM after netboot fails
=> console baud: 9600
=> autoboot from: commands specified in 'BOOT' environment variable

do you wish to change the configuration? y/n  [n]:  y
enable  "diagnostic mode"? y/n  [n]:  n
enable  "use net in IP bcast address"? y/n  [n]:  n
disable "load ROM after netboot fails"? y/n  [n]:  n
enable  "use all zero broadcast"? y/n  [n]:  n
enable  "break/abort has effect"? y/n  [n]:  n
enable  "ignore system config info"? y/n  [n]:  y

change console baud rate? y/n  [n]:  n

change the boot characteristics? y/n  [n]:  n

Once you are done with the above, reset the switch. You will be able to get into the switch and be able to configure it.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Are you using the procedure listed in this document?

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps663/products_password_recovery09186a00800945f7.shtml

If yes, can you please provide a console log of all the steps you have performed and the router bootup messages?
