How to enable Ipv6 in catalyst switches.

Hi,

I want to implement Ipv6 networking in our lab.  Before get into production, I have planned to try with testing set up. The testing set up would be comprising of  a switch, router and some of desktops.  I have a C2900XL series switches, please let me know whether can I upgrade the latest IOS image inorder to support Ipv6 in this switch. If so, please let me know the IOS version which is compatible for this switch.

The switch version details are as given below,

Latest release available on CCO for 2900XL is 12.0(5)WC17 released on April 2007.

To my knowledge, 2900XL do not support IPv6 (IPv6 traffic can be switched through as any other L2 frame).

As you might know, 2900XL is EoS/EoL and Cisco do not make any more maintenance releases:

2900XL/3500XL does not support IPv6.

Why would you need IPv6 for a purely Layer2 switch like a 2900XL/3500XL?  Assigning IP addresses on a layer 2 switch is purely for administrative/management purposes.
