How to Find Unused Modules on 6500 series switches

There are a bunch of 6500 switches on our campus and we are trying to figure out which ones have unused line cards.

So far, the options are to have someone login to each switch and do either

"show interfaces description" to verify all interfaces on a module are down/down

or

"show interfaces status" to verify all interfaces on a module are "notconnect"

Is there an easier way to determine that all of the ports on a module are unused?

Say something that would provide output akin to "modules 1-3 have active ports and that module 4 has nothing connected"?

You can write a script to check whether a port is connected or not, however, you run the risk of ports showing "notconnect" but the person(s) are out of the office or on leave.
