anyone know if there is a comand avaiable that will let you know the actual dimms installed on a Cisco router and the physical memory bank info? There are two slots with various combinations. I already tried:
sh diag
sh inv
sh hardware
thanks,

The "sh version" or "sh hardware" will tell you the amount of DRAM. You look at the data sheet of the particular appliance and compare the minimum/maximum DRAM allowed and take it from there.

Try to use "show platform" and look for Size of dimm
The below o/p is taken from Cisco 3825 Router.
Dimm 0 SPD data :
Size of dimm = 256 Megabytes
