HSRP - change source IP address

Hi!

Is there any way to change source IP address to virtual IP address instead of interface's ip address when routing ip traffic through hsrp enabled interface?

The problem is I have /30 subnet to connect to my ISP and I would like to connect two routers to provide HA for WAN connection.

Is the only solution that ISP to provide /29 subnet instead of /30?

Thanks for any suggestion.

Jernej

Jernej,

The source address will always be sent as the real address on the router and not the vIP. What type of connection is this?

With HSRP you will always need N+1 addresses - two routers, three addresses. VRRP allows you to use one less, but even then you would need a /29 to fit both of your addresses plus the ISP router.

This is Ethernet connection with one usable public IP address.

It seems I'll have to ask ISP to provide /29 subnet with 5 usable IP addresses
