hsrp flapping

Hi forum,

I had an incident I am not sure could be the cause of the flapping of my HRSP routers running on my core switches. One of the etherchannel port is having some problem, I have this vlan going up and down for a period of time, when we shut the port down, things were back to normal.

My management is sort of unhappy and wanted us to look for a better solution, Is there a way I can guide against this problem?

Thank you,

py

hi

i think the only thing that lead to a hrsp flaping is the instability of your network , that can be a form of overload that prohibit hello packet from the active to reach the standby by the way the standby wait three times the hello interval you ve configured (hold timer) if it does not receive the hello it will suppose the active is dead and it will take over, but a little bit of time after the network is no longer overloaded , the hello reach the standby , the active in that case if it s configured to preempt it will take over and so on and so forth a kind of flapping .

HTH

please do rate if it does clarify

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the help.

Attached is the configuration files for the two core switches at site A that was having problem, log is clear coz the switch was later rebooted.

the configuration is sort of like:

(Site A) C4006C4506===fiberportchannel10===(Site B)C4506C4006

some of the logs that i can get:
