HSRP & iBGP

Hi,

I have an query regarding HSRP & iBGP running together.

We have two CE router connected to two different PE and acting as Active Backup. There is HSRP running between CE routers.

Now we want to use both CE as active active for load sharing. We can use the Local Preference and AS-Path/Med for load balance. But the problem is, to use Local Pref & AS-prepend/MED we will have to run the iBGP between CE routers.

My question is, Possible to run HSRP and iBGP together? If not, is there any other way to use the links as Active Active? Appriciate your comments.

Attached is the current config of CE routers.

Thx.

Re: HSRP & iBGP

Hello Niraj,

you can use iBGP and HSRP together but if your target is to have load balancing on both CE routers and links you need:

a) or to use two HSRP groups with different group numbers and opposite settings

b) to move to GLBP

otherwise end user devices will send traffic only to Active router and outgoing traffic will not be load balanced

Hope to help

Giuseppe
