HSRP is used in Layer 3 switches and routers. It is used to provide first hop redundancy in the local LAN environment.

Hi Rashid,
HSRP is a layer3 feature available in routers and layer3 switches.
You can use it to provide default gateway redundancy for end user hosts in the network.

Hi
thanks a lot for your reply , this what make me wonder as far as know it's L3 Feature but you can still configure HSRP in VLAN management interface of L2 Switch so what is that for
Again thanks a lot

The IOS code in L2 switches is shared with the L3 switches, so CLI commands are available.
You can configure HSRP under the SVI but it won't actually do anything as the device can't function as a gateway out of the network since it doesn't have routing capabilities.
