HSRP IPv6 multicast

Hi,

I configured HSRP with IPv6 on routers and sniff traffic on one client attached to same network. I found that client gets HSRP Hello messages also. The messages are sent to FF02::66 address. It is normal that client gets that messages?

HSRP IPv6 multicast

Well, it depends whether the local switch supports MLD snooping or not. If MLD snooping is not supported, the  multicast traffic is forwarded to all ports. If it is supported, multicast traffic is forwarded to ports that have requested to receive the specific multicast group via MLD.

HSRP IPv6 multicast

Hi,

Sniffers generally put the interface in promiscuous mode, so yes it is normal for you to see it on the client.

so in 'normal mode' packets don't arrive to client's network card?
