Hi All,
I have two routers (RTA & RTB) with HSRP configured. Both routers has a serial connection to the ISP network. Preempt and tracking are enabled on both routers.
RTA has a priority of 115
RTB has a priority of 100
Default decrement value of 10
If serial connection of RTA goes down, because of serial tracking, RTA's priority will be 105.
RTA will still be the active router because of the higher priority (RTB=100).
My question is, will RTA perform another decrement to make its priority 95? Or will it remain its active status due to the higher priority, thus stopping the forwarding of traffic due to the down serial connection?
Thanks

The router RTA wont decrement it further by a scale of 10 so that RTB becomes active
When you are using the default decrement value, its always better to set the priorities so that they differ by 5.
Configure RTA with a priority of 105 or increase the decrement value to 20

No. it will remain the active HSRP router.
You can modify the decrement value (20) and it should accomplish what you need.
