HSRP

guys can we do load balancing on HSRP as i till now i thought that HSRP cant do load balancing it more like active and standby thing....???? and if yes how we do that

Hi,

1.Yes we can do load balancing with HSRP.

2.For that you need to create multiple HSRP group

3.For e.g you have 4 vlan's A,B,C,D

4.Here to do load balancing You need to make 4 HSRP groups

5.Make HSRP group for vlan A&B as ACTIVE on ROUTER1, by adjusting priority as 110

6.Make HSRP group for vlan C&D as STANDBY on ROUTER1, by keeping default priority of 100.

7.Make HSRP group for vlan C&D as ACTIVE on ROUTER2, by adjusting priority as 110

6.Make HSRP group for vlan A&B as STANDBY on ROUTER2, by keeping default priority of 100.

Hi,

A little addition to the previous post:

With HSRP, you need to configure the ip address of default gateways in the hosts manually so one half of the hosts use HSRP group 1, another half of the hosts use HSRP group 2.

Of course you can configure any other ratio for load balancing, if your HSRP routers R1 and R2 have different throughput possibilities.

Hi quroo,

let us say u have X and Y switches.In X switch you have to give priority to some

VLAN(example odd Vlans)

spanning-tree mode pvst

no spanning-tree optimize bpdu transmission

spanning-tree extend system-id

spanning-tree vlan 1,3,5,7,9,11,13 priority 4096

spanning-tree vlan 2,4,6,8,10,12 priority 8192

on Y switch(even vlans)

spanning-tree mode pvst

no spanning-tree optimize bpdu transmission

spanning-tree extend system-id

spanning-tree vlan 1,3,5,7,9,11,13 priority 8192

spanning-tree vlan 2,4,6,8,10,12 priority 4096
