Hi all

I want to setup hsrp on my dist switches

should I put the timers to

subseconds

for example:

standby 1 timers msec 200 msec 1000 ?

Also, can I use the same standyby group for each vlan

so vlan 1

standby 1 ip x.x.x.x

vlan 2

standby 1 ip x.x.x.x etc ?

cheers

Carl

Hello Carl,

a) yes

b) yes and it is advantageous for scalability in some L3 switches you can use up to 16 different HSRP groups so reusing the same groups is a key aspect for scalability

Hope to help

Giuseppe

what would happen if I put the preempt command on both, but did not change the priority level on either, which would be active ?

If both switches are booted at the same moment:

In the case of an equal priority, the router with the highest IP address for the respective group is elected as active. Furthermore, if there are more than two routers in the group, the second highest IP address determines the standby router and the other router/routers are in the listen state.
