Any possibility that the MSFC is configured with this specific address?

Hope this helps,

what i would suggest you is, just login to the layer 3 module, type "show ip arp 10.1.100.17" juz find the mac-address of this ip address & then come out from the layer 3 module from the cisco 6509 switch interface type "show cam ab:cd:ef:gh:ij:kl" it should show where exactly the mac-address is residing, with that you can come to know whether the MSFC is using the IP address or it is pointing to any other pc.

eg.

Cat6509>(enable)session 15

MSFC#show ip arp 10.1.100.17

Protocol Address Age (min) Hardware Addr Type Interface

Internet 10.1.100.17 0 abc.efgh.ijkl ARPA Vlan2

Cat6509>(enable)show cam ab:cd:ef:gh:ij:kl

VLAN Dest MAC/Route Des [CoS] Destination Ports or VCs / [Protocol Type]

---- ------------------ ----- -------------------------------------------

2 ab-cd-ef-gh-ij-kl 1/1 [ALL]

hope this helps.

rate this post if cleared.

Thanks , its the MSFC using the ip .below is the output from show mac output..and its the module on which msfc is connected. But why wd MSFC suddenly use this IP. how do i make it not to use it?

I cant see the ip address assigned to MSFC anywhere. are we right to say its being used by MSFC

Once you type "show ip arp 10.1.100.17" in the MSFC, what MAC-Address you see?, & then from the "6509>(enable)show cam " is it poiting to the MSFC?

Yes, thts wht i pasted before

6509> (enable) sh cam 00-d0-04-f4-ab-fc

100 00-d0-04-f4-ab-fc R# 15/1

101 00-d0-04-f4-ab-fc R# 15/1

102 00-d0-04-f4-ab-fc R# 15/1

---------------------------------------------6509#sh ip arp 10.1.100.17

Protocol Address Age (min) Hardware Addr Type Interface

Internet 10.1.100.17 - 00d0.04f4.abfc ARPA Vlan100

but how do i make msfc not use it, wht shd i do?

Hi,

Please login to MSFC and then paste the output from " show config " and " show ip int brief". It should list the address, if used by the MSFC.

What happens if you clear the ARP on msfc " clear ip arp ".

regards,

-amit singh

Hi,

can you give me the output of the interface vlan 100?

show run interface vlan 100

interface Vlan100

ip address 10.1.100.2 255.255.255.0

no ip redirects

ip pim sparse-dense-mode

standby 100 priority 200 preempt

standby 100 ip 10.1.100.1

clear the arp , and ping the ip again doesnt help..if msfc is using it i cant figure why? because the config doesnt show anything line with 10.1.100.17..

This is something a strange behavior is happening. but can you tell me how many vlans are created in the msfc & make sure that this ip address is not set even as a standby IP address. this is might b silly, could you juz restart the switch during the night or day time after working hours. it might help.
