ICND1 Glossary

Hi there,

Please I want to know about,

I was looking up in the glossary of ICND1 book. Below p section I found the term (packet) which was defined "

A logical grouping of bytes that includes the network layer header and encapsulated data, but

specifically does not include any headers and trailers below the network layer ", I couldn't understand the 2th part of definition

Hi,

It basically means that it does not contain the headers and trailers from the data and physical layer.

See the data link layer adds a frame header and trailer converting the packets into frames, and the MAC sublayer layer converts the frames into a bits which the Physical layer can put on the wire.

Hope this helps.

Hi Leo,

Do you mean that the signals move across the media called packets rather than bits ?

Thanks in advanced
