ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR:

Getting Error on cisco WS-C3650-24PD switch

Jun  9 13:39:51.152: %ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi1/0/6: Power Controller reports Short detected

the problem is this port is connected to a UPS network management card, so this port should not be trying to engage PoE at all on this port. I turned off PoE on this port manually and this message stopped. is this possibly an issue with the switch hardware or do you think it might be more or a software bug?

Thanks for the output.  VERY,

Thanks for the output.  VERY, VERY HELPFUL.

Pair "D" controls GigabitEthernet and Pair "C" controls PoE.  Look at the "Staus" column.  See the result?  Ideally, you want the result to be NORMAL.  A result of "Short" is no good.

Look at the distance of the fault.  This means your patch cable connected to the switch port is faulty.  Replace that.  Just because your end-device is not PoE doesn't mean that all you need is turning off the port's PoE.  The fault could potentially mean that the cable is so faulty/inferior you're potentially looking at cross-talk.

Do the following:  1.

Do the following:

1.  Command:  test cable tdr interface G1/0/6;

2.  Wait for approximately 5 to 7 seconds;

3.  Command:  sh cable tdr interface G1/0/6; and

4.  Post the output to #3.

S-BAY-CORE1#sh cable tdr

S-BAY-CORE1#sh cable tdr interface g1/0/6
TDR test last run on: June 10 09:24:18

Interface Speed Local pair Pair length        Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------
Gi1/0/6   100M  Pair A     0    +/- 1  meters Pair A      Normal
                Pair B     0    +/- 1  meters Pair B      Normal
                Pair C     2    +/- 1  meters N/A         Short
                Pair D     2    +/- 1  meters N/A         Short

and the current port config

interface GigabitEthernet1/0/6
 switchport mode access
 power inline never
 spanning-tree portfast

Like i said above i turned off power to that port becuse the device does not use PoE

i swapped out the cable and

i swapped out the cable and set the port back to auto for PoE. i have not received that error since the cable swap, however after reissuing the command i get the same output

S-BAY-CORE1#sh cable tdr interface G1/0/6
TDR test last run on: June 11 09:57:47

Interface Speed Local pair Pair length        Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------

                Pair C     1    +/- 1  meters N/A         Short
                Pair D     2    +/- 1  meters N/A         Short

Now keep in mind the network interface connected to the port is only 10/100

Let me hazard a guess that
