I have a Cisco 2960 switch connected from port f0/48 to port F5/48 on a Cisco 6500 via a cross-over cable. The link is configured as a trunk (mode=on). Both interfaces are set to 100mb and Full-Duplex. The average amount of traffic traversing the link is 2mb/s
I am seeing input errors on F5/48 on the 6500.
So far I have done the following:
Changed port on 2960
Set speed duplex on both interfaces to auto
Changed port on 6500.
I am still receving input erros. Any ideas how I could fix this ?
There are no other affected interfaces, there is another 2960 above the one in question and that isn't generating any errors at all. the cabling from that switch follows the same physical path, which is only 3 metres long. I'm starting to suspect a faulty 2960.
Any ideas ?
FastEthernet5/48 is up, line protocol is up (connected)
Hardware is C6k 100Mb 802.3, address is 0005.7487.ac2b (bia 0005.7487.ac2b)

reliability 237/255, txload 5/255, rxload 4/255
Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set
input flow-control is off, output flow-control is unsupported
ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00
Last input 00:00:50, output 00:00:07, output hang never
Last clearing of "show interface" counters 3d21h
Input queue: 0/2000/14/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 1322
"Includes runts, giants, no buffer, CRC, frame, overrun, and ignored counts. Other input-related errors can also cause the input errors count to be increased, and some datagrams may have more than one error; therefore, this sum may not balance with the sum of enumerated input error counts."
There are also runts!? Is the same 2960 seeing errors or any attached device?
thanks for your reply, I have checked all the interfaces on the 2960 and none of them are showing any input errors of any kind at all. The amount of input errors on F5/48 on the 6500 is still incrementing steadily.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
