Installation error Nexus 1000v

When I want to install the Nexus 1000v on a standalone ESX1 5.1 installation I get at Step 5. Confirmation the error (see attachment):

Unable to retrieve deployed VM. Please check VC connection

It's an easy setup with 4 vlans on a trunk, and the managment ip of the ESXi server in vlan 1 which is allowed on the trunk.

What am I doing wrong..... Please help..

Will you please get the following from the VSM?

1. Show Module
2. Show SVS connection

Also did you trunk out the packet and control vlan across this same link you are using for management? Best practice would be to seperate the links for management, control and packet from the vm traffic.

This is a new installation, so no VSM is up and running yet...

When using L3 the packet port group is grayed out for some reason, the managment and the control vlan are on the trunk.

Fresh setup I would go with L2 unless you plan on using L3 for a specific reason. You need to build a Standard switch on the ESX host first to bring the Nexus 1000v up on. Once you get the nexus built you can migrate (management,control,packet) back onto itself and do away with the standard switch.

I am getting the same error when trying to deploy a new VSM. Tried Layer 2 standard and custom, adjusted different things but can't get it to work. Getting that same error:

Unable to retrieve deployed VM. Please check VC connection.

I am trying to add the VSM with the name '87457-n1kv01.den03'. I checked the hostd.log file and see a bunch of errors. Any idea how to fix this?
