Interconnecting two Sup-7E supervisors

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody could tell me if there are any distance restrictions (other than those defined for a specific transceiver) that are associated with connecting two Sup-7E supervisors for enabling VSS over? We plan to physically separate our two 4500E core switches into different geographical locations on the same campus (between 500/1Km apart).

As long as you meet the transceiver requirements you should be fine for the VSL - there's no published limitation that would supercede those.

It is a bit odd to setup that way for a classic core/distribution to access switch architecture unless all your access switches also have multichassis etherchannel dual-home to each physical core switch. Also be aware of the features you won't have (reference Cisco Live presentation BRKCRS-2468).

Finally, be sure to run IOS-XE 3.4(1)SG (released July 24 2013). It has some significant bug fixes over the initial 3.4(0) release from December 2012.
