internet back bone and isp

HI every body!

I have few questions.

ISp provides internet access to their customers. Big isp provides internet access to small isps and the others organization.

My question do all companies need ISP in order to connect to internet ? is there any company which directly connects to internet without any ISP's help?

Hello Sarah,

This is not possible because internet is made by the interconnection of hundreds of ISPs and millions of IP subnets.

There is no internet core by itself.

All ISPs are in competition but need to cooperate to provide connectivity alias Internet coverage.

Even UUNET in old times now part of Verizon was not able to stay on his own network alone.
